Day 1 – Acadia National Park

The first day at Acadia, we made it out fairly early to get to the Beehive Trail. The park was really crowed despite us being there the last few days of the peak season. Shops and restaurants were closing down for the season.
We were able to get in the last day a local lobster roll joint was open. I felt lucky about that one as there were a few days we stopped at places that were closed for the season already. The lobster roll place even had gluten free rolls, which made my heart happy.

The Beehive is by far the most popular trail in the park. Even so, I was surprised that there were so many people making the climb. It is a 1.5 mile trail where dogs and small children are not allowed. There are ladders and rungs, but if you go clockwise, you can make it to the top with quite a bit of rock scrambling, but this will avoid the ladders and rungs. This makes it an out and back instead of a loop, but you still get to see the gorgeous views. Win-win.

Life is how you hike it! You don’t get to see the gorgeous views if you don’t hike to the top. If you go to Acadia, the Beehive is a must hike!

It was a breathtaking. The leaves were the most beautiful shades of reds, oranges and yellows. The low temperature was 42° with a real feel of 31°. The high was 50° – so we had to plan accordingly. Layers….lots of layers.

I definitely want to make it back to Acadia one day! We did stop at Thunderhole and took a peek. It is right off of the park loop road. Since it isn’t high tide, it didn’t sound very loud. Since we are more into the hikes, we didn’t go back again later.

There was a line to enter the Bass Harbor Head Light. We waited about 20-30 minutes to get into the parking lot. Once there, the hike to the lighthouse is a short walk down a path. In order to get a really great photo and to see the light house, there is a little bit of a rock scramble to get to the best photo spot. It took a long time to get a photo without people in the shot. People really like this part of Maine. It is very peoplely! I tried to get a photo further back without people, but it never seemed to work out.
