Acadia Day 3: Carriage Roads

Acadia National park has about 45 miles of carriage roads. No cars are allowed on the carriage roads; it is open for hiking, horses and cycling. Absolutely stunning beauty all around. I am so glad that we decided to bring our bikes to ride along the carriage roads.

On day 3, we rode our bicycles 25 miles around the carriage roads. We stopped at the waterfall bridge and the Jordan Pond House. By day 3 at Acadia, we ran out of wedding cake and ate Maine wild blueberry ice cream for dessert every evening. Since we were doin intermittent fasting, Marty’s blood glucose stayed normal.

My legs were SO tired after the long ride and I was exceptionally thankful that I brought my Theragun along on the trip. It hurts, but it hurts SO good! If you have not tried a Theragun, I want to suggest that you do! It is the best thing that I have ever done for my mobility. Check out their website: Theragun

After the ride, we ate dinner at a local place where I had lobster risotto. It was so delicious!

The carriage roads were built between 1913 and 1940. Visitors toured the countryside by horse and buggy back in the day. It’s pretty cool riding on these roads while hiking about the history of the area!

Waterfall Bridge

The fall colors were absolutely beautiful the week we were there. I’m so glad that we had an October wedding! I had originally wanted a September wedding, but am glad it didn’t work out. If we had gotten married in September, we would have missed all of the glorious fall colors at Acadia!

The bridge work was absolutely amazing!

As always, pictures don’t do the carriage roads justice. You’ve got to get out there and see it for yourself. I definitely want to go back to Acadia one day. We spent a total of 5 days in the area and we still have many sights to see!
