Merchants Millpond State Park

What a whirlwind this past week was! We got back from backpacking 50 miles on the Appalachian Trail Sunday. I spent Monday packing to go to Arizona for work for the week. I landed back in Charlotte at 8:40pm Friday……. Whew.

The Swamp is pretty!

We woke up early Saturday to meet friends for a camping and kayaking trip to Merchants Millpond. We LOVE this place. When we were there a few years ago, we saw an alligator. Did you know that Merchants Millpond State Park is the northernmost place alligators are found in the United States?

This is the picture I took of the gator.

We were hoping we would get to see another alligator this past weekend. Merchants Millpond did not disappoint. We saw an alligator while kayaking this past Saturday, too. It was a very exciting day!

Once we got off the water, we cooked supper and sat around the campfire with friends for the evening. It was a lot of fun catching up with old friends.

Yesterday before leaving camp.

Yesterday morning we woke up and got a fire going. We were blessed to sit around the fire to eat breakfast. What a great way to relax and spend the weekend!

I had to travel to Ohio for work today, so I’m going to post about my adventures in reverse order. This weekend was a small trip and the details are easier to remember.

While in Arizona, I did get a hike in two nights after work. It’s a lot different than our region of the country, but it is beautiful, nonetheless. I’ll try to find time this week to get some of the adventures posted.

On Thursday, I got pulled over by border patrol. It’s a funny story……
