Family Tradition: Picking Christmas Trees in North Carolina’s Mountains

Yesterday after work, we drove to the North Carolina mountains to pick a Christmas tree. Not far from the Blue Ridge Parkway is a place called Frosty’s. We are blessed to live so close to the Blue Ridge Mountains and to call North Carolina home. The last three years we’ve found small farms in North Carolina to find our trees.

We had a wonderful day picking out our Christmas tree. It’s a new family tradition for us-three years now. Two years ago, we went to Slaughter’s Farm to get a tree. Last year we went to Grace Farm and this year we chose a different farm.

We really liked Frosty’s! They had lots of families with dogs and lots of kids running around. It was so cute to see the little ones excited about picking out their own Christmas tree. Frosty’s cuts a piece of your tree stump and you bring it to a spot on the farm where they brand it with a hot iron with “Frosty’s 2025”. I am not sure what we will do with ours, but it is a neat little thing they do for free.

We brought along keto hot chocolate this year — to keep us from being tempted to get any sugar laden cocoa there or on the way home. Marty has kept his A1C in the normal range for a few years now and we don’t want to backslide! We used Primal Kitchen’s Peppermint Chocolate Collagen Peptides, a stick of chocolate LMNT with a splash of cream. We topped it with sugar-free whipped cream. Yum.

Once we found our tree and the men cut it down, we went to look at the wreaths they had for sale. We found an amazing cross wreath and knew we had to have it for our door! I had never seen such a wreath.

I think I was the one who was most excited about going to get the tree. The boys just go along with me. Ha ha. It’s a great family tradition and I hope that we keep it up for years to come. We are ready for Advent and Christmas.
