What have you been reading? I’m currently reading a book on Bats titled The Secret Lives of Bats. During my recent travels for work, I also listened to what I call brain candy – a few more of the Stephanie Plum novels. I completed the 31st book. In the beginning after BD, I started reading these funny, lighthearted books just to take my mind off of things. Since then, I’ve expanded to listening to some of them on audible.
This past Saturday I made it from Medford to Seattle. Then from Seattle to Atlanta. My last flight was cancelled. Luckily I was able to get a hotel. Yesterday, the rescheduled flight was delayed over 5 hours. Luckily, I had books to read on my Kindle.
The bat book is SUPER! Bats are very intriguing creatures. I know that I would never be one to go into the caves to find out about them. This book goes into the harrowing tails of a man who started exploring caves at a young age. All to learn more about the Myotis bat.
Maybe not the most exciting book on the planet to most people. Bats kill an extraordinary number of pests that can cause human diseases. I often wonder how many people know this.
With Christmas and work, our outdoor activities will be limited until the end of January. We really want to get back to Tellico Plains to see Bald River Falls. When we were there last, the bridge was still out. We hope to be able to go at the end of January. Between family Christmas events, Marty working every other weekend and my having to travel to Missouri in January, we will have limited time to camp or hike. Winter is the best time for camping, in my opinion. So, Boo to all the work this winter! <laughter>
We still haven’t set the date for the Everglades paddle that we are trying to coordinate with friends in February. They work, too. Ha ha.
A few years ago, I purchased Oakley Bat Wolf sunglasses. These are the second pair of sunglasses that I have ever lost. One in a waterfall and these — who knows where.
I have been wanting to order some prescription Oakleys for a very long time. As I get older, my distance vision gets a little worse each year. <smile> I am blessed with good health!
I finally ordered some prescription Oakley Meta glasses Saturday morning. The script was from early 2024 and Oakley said it was too old. I am blessed to only have a mild need for glasses. At 57, it is nice to see clearly, though and glasses sharpen the world up for me.
I found a place that does same day eye appointments here in South Carolina and went after work today. Very slight change in the last two years- my left eye had the biggest change.
I’ve wanted to get videos of our hikes, backpacking adventures and kayaking adventures. I got a GoPro almost 5 years ago, but have never been able to use it very easily. I know it works well for many adventurers who Vlog.
I’ve tried my phone, but the truth is, I can’t hike or paddle while holding it. I want to Vlog about our longer backpacking adventures and felt the Oakley Meta glasses were the best fit. It would have been awesome to have them on our recent 50 mile AT hike.
I definitely want to learn to use them before Maine in the summer. According to online reviews, the Oakleys cater to outdoor enthusiasts more than the Ray Ban Meta glasses. They have better picture quality, are more water resistant and durable.
Obviously these glasses aren’t for people who want to do selfie type videos. It will be a personal POV addition. I talked to Marty about his helping me create Vlog on my YouTube channel that is already in existence.
Oh how I would have loved to have them at Crater Lake last week!! This is something that I have wanted to do for years! Mostly for memories, but I also have quite a few elderly friends from church who are unable to adventure due to age related or health issues. They enjoy my pictures and I think videos would kick it up a notch.
I got the clear glasses with transition lenses. With the hands free video capability, I can’t wait to see what I am able to capture. Pictures rarely do the things we see justice…..
One of the things I would have loved to Vlog on the 50 miles was the Helene damage. I just can’t backpack and hold my phone…. Often times there are so many “Oh Wow” moments that would slow us down too much if I stopped to take a picture of every beautiful thing!
I have a Canon that I’ve had for at least 20 years. It’s big, not remotely water resistant and HEAVY. I’ve always been into pictures and journaling.
Because these glasses are prescription sunglasses, they will take a month to arrive. If I get any good videos and get them up in my YouTube channel, I’ll let you know!
These will be POV captures and not selfie influencer type videos. Just something to help me share my love of nature with others.
It’s just a fun thing to do!
