On Independence Day, we woke up and made pancakes and bacon. Life without bacon isn’t worth living. We left camp to explore the National Forest. Jakes Rocks weren’t very far from our camp. We hiked about 5 miles on some really cool mountain bike trails.

The Allegheny Reservoir is gorgeous. I had thought I would kayak on Thursday, but it ended up being a rainy day. I had my long boat, my Carolina 14, with me. It’s okay, because we had a blast exploring in the drizzle.
The forest was very beautiful. Lush green ferns all over the forest floor. I got a great photo with rainbows.

We ended the day grilling steaks and corn on the solo stove grill that Marty gave me for my birthday. It was delish.
Everything was closed on July 4th, so we had to wait before going to the visitor’s center. Luckily we had maps and weren’t afraid to wander around.
