Another Ghost Story

Ghost stoically waiting 10 min

Ghost has had an eventful week. Week before last, I was out of town doing tests with a potential new client, then headed to my newest division to help the crew and do new hire paperwork. Happy dance, because I finally have the division fully staffed. It only took 8 months with this post-COVID way of working.

My middle son kept me posted on Ghost’s tummy issues. He’s never had accidents in the house and in a matter of 2 1/2 days he had 7. I got home just before 9pm on Friday and he seemed to be in good spirits, despite the stomach upset. At midnight, he woke me up to bring him out. At 3:30 am, he woke me up to bring him out. He was outside with me and at 3:38, after doing his messy business, he spotted a skunk. You guessed it, he got sprayed.

By 4:30 am, I had him out of the bath and by 8am, I was on the phone with the vet. Between the advice of the vet and switching from Hills Science Large Breed adult dog food to their sensitive stomach and skin kibble, his stomach is under control. It took longer to get rid of the skunk smell.

Here’s what worked:

Skunk Shampoo:

1 gallon of water

1/4 cup baking soda

1 quart hydrogen peroxide

1 tsp of liquid dish soap

Mix together. Cover dog in mixture. Let it sit for 10 minutes, not getting it in the eyes. Rinse.

What worked on what smell was left on the snout and ears? I put hydrogen peroxide on a paper towel and got it all over his snout and ears. Did this twice and the smell is gone.

In other news, I am planting clover all over my yard. It’s been fun watching it grow. Clover adds nitrogen to the soil, thus fertilizing it AND the dogs love to roll and play in it. Work is going well– North Carolina is growing and that is great news for me and for my company.

I have been meaning to post pictures of Niagara Falls and the other waterfalls that we hunted for and found last month. Life just goes so fast when you are trying to live before you die! Last weekend, we camped in the mountains near the Virginia Creeper trail. The rain kept me from riding, but the mountains, the sunsets and the full moon were very beautiful. You’ve got the get out and see it because it’s prettier than any picture we could ever take.
