Off to Baton Rouge

The time has come! We leave for Baton Rouge later today. I’ve tried updating, but always get sidetracked. Marty has lost almost 25 pounds and I’ve lost 8. True story. I have listened to 4 different books on audible and would suggest them to everyone. The Diabetes Code, Lies My Doctor Told Me, Life in the Fasting Lane and another book on Fasting, but recommend Life in the Fasting Lane over the latter.

I need to do a daily follow-up blog on the recipes we’ve tried and about Marty’s blood glucose numbers. Mine have never been bad. I had my yearly checkup and had been fasting for over a day and it was 66. I don’t have diabetes, but this way of eating can make anyone healthier. Marty is still on the Metformin and his numbers are much better. His fasting blood glucose is sometimes barely in the pre-diabetes range which is really fantabulous. While he is staying at my house sitting the dogs and the house, he is going to try some longer fasts to see if he can speed up getting the diabetes under control.

Meanwhile, I upgraded my 2016 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk to a 2018 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, Sahara. Believe it or not, it pulls a few hundred pounds less than the Cherokee, most likely due to its weight. Both still pull my tiny teardrop trailer. When you buy used, the colors are limited, but I found a white one (Jeep certified pre-owned) and decided it was time to join the real Jeep club. I would love to take it out west and roam the desert and rockies! Maybe one day.

We’ve done a few longer bike rides around Pilot Mountain, hiked in the Yadkin River section of Pilot Mountain State Park and went topless up to the Parkway and hiked a trail near the music center. Life comes at you fast, so you’ve got to live each day to its fullest.

My job is amazing. I continually say that I work for the best company in the world. I’m still re-aligning my NC divisions as we have gotten several new clients and picked up extra business from existing clients. ‘m really excited about all the new things coming up. We got a new VP 3 months ago and it’s been great- now we have one on one meetings with him instead of the president every two weeks. I really love the Deming style of management and have learned so much.

On the home front, I have lived here 18 years and the landscape has changed a lot. Just had a cherry tree cut down and two stumps grinded. The middle told me a tale that he was told there is too much wrong with this house. I am not sure how anyone who hasn’t lived here in over 7 years would know what info….. I fixed it all and got two new heat pumps. My projects for winter are to pull up al the carpet and install flooring. I have already pulled up the carpet on the steps, as well. I finally have built up some equity, too. Life’s good. Not perfect, but things seem to be going well. Glory to God.

Marty cut up the cherry tree wood, so with the saved maple tree wood and this, I have a bit of firewood for winter. The maple could be used tis winter and the cherry maybe next winter. Winning. I think I will make flower gardens there in the spring.

Shadow is 11 1/2 now and very grumpy. Ammy is the sweetest- we got attacked by a bulldog in our neighborhood who bit her and she didn’t growl or bark, she is a princess and did not understand what was going on. Thankfully, the bite didn’t break the skin. She is still afraid to pass that house. Ghost at least barked and growled back. It was chaos– Marty and I thankfully kept them from being harmed. He had to kick the dog at one point.

Last, check out Wholesome Yum blog for some great keto recipes. We made a mock apple crisp with zucchini last night that was pretty good!
